Start with evidence

Separate a dosing problem from a feeding, pack or measurement problem.

An auger filler can only repeat when the product is presented consistently, the correct tooling is fitted, the pack is positioned correctly and the check scale is used consistently. Record the sequence before changing several settings at once.

When the powder needs a new trial.

A new supplier, formulation, moisture condition or particle distribution can change bulk density and flow. Treat the material as a new application if the previous settings no longer reproduce the approved feed condition.

Why should the first fill after a stoppage be checked separately?

The first fill after a stoppage can differ from stable production because powder may settle, compact, flood the outlet or lose a consistent charge within the auger tube while the machine is idle. Recording it separately reveals a restart problem that an overall average may hide.

Include controlled short and longer pauses in the trial and record the restart sequence used by the operator or line controls.

How can a scale problem be mistaken for an auger-filler problem?

Incorrect tare, unsuitable scale resolution, unstable support, product loss between filling and weighing or inconsistent sampling can create apparent fill variation even when the dosing cycle is unchanged. Verify the scale and handling method before altering the auger recipe.

Keep the individual result sequence and identify who weighed each pack, when it was tared and whether powder was lost.

When should worn tooling be suspected?

Suspect worn or damaged tooling when a previously stable product and recipe drift after the scale, product batch, hopper presentation and assembly have been verified. Inspect the auger, tube, outlet, seals and alignment against the approved tooling record rather than changing several recipe values to compensate.
